Little Women

To me, Little Women was always more than a love story. It has always been a story about sisterhood, their relationship with their Marmee and the struggles of these women all growing up together through life. This book always amazes me given the time period it was written in but how it still feels so relevant to our present time. In a way, works of literature like these laid the humble foundations of women’s rights movements we know of today and celebrate across the world with so much enthusiasm trying to keep the dialogue about women equality ever alive until we are closer to a more equal and just society.

This is a letter to women friendships that build you up, nurse you through heartbreaks, help you through setbacks, disappointments and who are there to celebrate from the smallest of your wins to all your worldly victory trophies you have managed to bring under your hood.

To the women who inspire you in ways it is not always possible to articulate, who push you to win in life but also stand by you during the low points and I am deeply grateful for all such friendships that I have survived. When I look at the girls in my life, I find this uncanny resemblance in the stories of women in my life and those of the March Sisters in today’s context.

We couldn’t be more different from each other and yet we are all trying to surf together on the waves that the vast ocean that this life is, has to offer. Sometimes there are difficult gigantic waves but we don’t loose hope and try to surf on them without loosing our balance and then there are some calm waves in between and we try to make the most of it.

There’s this bittersweet feeling I have when I see all of us trying to make our way through our careers, fitness struggles, working on that little generation gap with parents, traversing our way through love lives, doing what we are passionate about, trying to build something and trying to be better than what we were yesterday and I feel so damn proud of us for doing that.

Also, I don’t want to forget the men in my life who have always made me believe in the goodness of a changing and evolving world. Here’s to all of us a Happy International Women’s Day, may we continue to forge our unique paths in this beautiful life and strive to create a world where all genders are respected equally everywhere we look around and may we keep the conversation about this alive because there is still a long road to go.
